Seattle: Lake Union, Capitol Hill and Madrona

Seattle, Washington, is one of the nation's larger metropolitan areas, and is home to many of the state's residents. In keeping with that status, it contains diverse neighborhoods and residents. Those who call the city home or who are thinking of doing so can research these areas and determine which they might like to call home. Potential home buyers have many choices, depending on their preferred
lifestyle.

South Lake Union

Northwest of the Downtown area, South Lake Union is near Capitol Hill and the Interstate and was once a center for logging, maritime and industrial activities.

Now, the area hosts biotechnology and medical research businesses, as well as a number of smaller companies and local businesses, according to the neighborhood's Chamber of Commerce. There are hotels and travel accommodations for tourists and working travelers, as well as restaurants catering to both visitors and permanent residents.

The neighborhood is home to both Lake Union Park and Denny Park, providing ample opportunities for residents to enjoy historic and new city amenities. Residential options include apartments and condominiums, the Chamber of Commerce notes, with some houseboats as well as more traditional homes.

Capitol Hill

Eastward is Capitol Hill, a densely populated urban neighborhood with Broadway as the central commercial street. Lined with shops, coffee houses and restaurants, this serves as a gathering place for many, including local students and counterculture communities. Less central attractions of the neighborhood include Volunteer Park and the Seattle Asian Art Museum.

This neighborhood hosts residents of diverse income levels, with housing to match their needs. The chamber of commerce and active community organizations work to support local small businesses and maintain productive neighborhood conditions.

Madrona

Found on the shores of Lake Washington, Madrona is a central Seattle neighborhood. It has no waterfront homes because the space is occupied by Madrona Beach Park, originally developed in the 1800s. Now, the area hosts some larger homes as well as more typically-sized properties, all situated among its gently rolling slopes.  The views, whether of Downtown or the lake area, are considered a perk by many
residents.

Madrona has a small core of commercial activity including shops and restaurants, but is less busy in that respect than other areas of the city. It remains central enough that more active neighborhoods can be conveniently reached, however, providing a compromise between quiet and liveliness.
