The nation's capital is always busy, with many government employees and offices as well as private businesses. Of course, it also has all the schools, parks and ther locations found in most cities. Those thinking about buying a home in Washington, D.C. should take the time to learn about a few of its neighborhoods before deciding what part of the city they want to call home.
Adams Morgan
Bordered by neighborhoods such as Columbia Heights and Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan has residents from a variety of cultural backgrounds. The area is a multicultural hub and home to restaurants featuring cuisine from around the world, with small businesses such as bookstores open during the day and thriving nightlife, according to nonprofit organization Destination DC.
In terms of housing, the neighborhood is characterized primarily by mid-sized apartment buildings and row houses, although it also has small condominiums and single-family houses. This neighborhood may be a good choice for those who want to be in a lively part of town, with easy access to many of the features that attract residents to city living in the first place.
Chevy Chase
Bordered by Cleveland Park and Friendship Heights, Chevy Chase has a few condominium buildings but is mostly composed of single-family homes. Designed to feel almost suburban while remaining connected to the city as a whole, this neighborhood is adjacent to Rock Creek Park and has quiet, winding streets.
Such a location may not be ideal for those who wish to have easy access to shopping or be located in the cultural center of the city, but provides many residents with a relaxing place to rest between venturing into livelier areas. This neighborhood does have some commercial areas, so residents of its single-family homes are not forced to leave for all business.
Glover Park
Situated near Maryland and north of Georgetown, Glover Park has a relatively suburban feel and a degree of quiet and privacy more central and bustling neighborhoods do not. The area has some smaller apartments but is characterized more by its single-family homes.
Complete with driveways and more room to breathe than less residential neighborhoods, Glover Park has fewer restaurants, bars, entertainment and shopping venues than other areas, but still has several of its own and remains part of the city.
The park for which this neighborhood is named is easily reached and hosts sports events for children as well as other events. It has become fairly popular for young families, but its proximity to Georgetown also attracts a steady number of graduate students and recent graduates. Many of the homes are three- or four-bedroom properties. The neighborhood sees relatively little through traffic, according to some residents, which contributes to the quiet community feel.
